Help support George & Ginny Fisher as they begin the journey to receive “NEW Lungs for Hooger!!” George Fisher, who most of us call Hooger, has dedicated his life to helping others breathe easier. Hooger has been a Respiratory Therapist for over 44 years serving patients that came through Bluefield Regional Hospital, now known as WVU Medicine. In 2020, he was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease and also Pulmonary Fibrosis. On March 14, 2025, he was admitted to WVU Medicine in Princeton, WV for the flu and pneumonia. Three days later, on March 17th, he lost his youngest son, Aaron. He checked himself out of the hospital to say goodbye to his son, only to be readmitted the next day due to his O2 dropping despite being on oxygen. Because of this, he was unable to attend the memorial services of Aaron. To say that the Fisher Family has been through a lot this year is an understatement. Even so, they continue to persevere. Now, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. You see, Hooger has been APPROVED to be placed on the TRANSPLANT LIST!! He is officially eligible to receive a double lung transplant. This is such a blessing, just as Hooger and Ginny have been to many of us. There are very few lives that they have not touched in one way or another. Hooger has been unable to work since March due to his health. Duke requires that donor recipients must remain with-in a close proximity to the hospital therefore, Hooger and Ginny must relocate to Raleigh-Durham within the next 2-3 weeks. After 41 years of providing childcare, Ginny has had to end her childcare services, which is a loss of income. Not only will they have the added expenses of temporary housing, parking, food and medical care in NC for the next 3-6 months at minimum, but they will also have their normal expenses back at home. It’s time we do what we can to give back to the man who has selflessly helped so many others. Let’s come together and lessen the upcoming financial strains and ensure HE gets the lungs he needs to breathe easier. It’s the least we can do since he has helped so many others to do just that.
